An Appropriate Distributer

The most Appropriate Company would probably be The Bauer Media Group because they already distribute magazines like Kerrang, Q and MOJO. Because of its involvement with these brands and the fact that they throw out 35 million magazines a week, it would be a good idea to bring them on board as the distributer. They would already know what was going on and how to effectively distribute the product so little research would have to be done and they would also have ties to other companies that would make the process smoother.

Evaluation of My Cover

What Have I Learnt

Before I started the course I already had a pretty good idea of how to use Photoshop CS4 to manipulate and improve pictures, how to make websites and blogs, how to take good photographs and the techniques like making up geometric shapes, the golden line and the rule of thirds and what makes an interesting visual. However I did learn that making an image that didn’t work at all, like the one on my cover, work takes to much effort and it would have been much easier to have re-taken the photograph. It was wrong because the subjects stretched across the photo to both sides meaning I couldn’t cut them out and preventing me from using the conventions of a normal magazine.

Since my preliminary task I have learnt the techniques and conventions of a successful magazine and which ones I can subvert without ruining it. I have learnt about how the golden line can also be used to make magazines easier to read and more exciting and how that it is very important to stick to a house style to link the pages together.

Although I did eventually learn all these things it did take a long time to develop my magazine as the 40 different designs show. I did find it difficult at first simply because I didn’t know what to do with my picture as I couldn’t separate the subject from the words so I had to paste coloured boxes over the photo to make the titles more visible. This made it look unprofessional so I decided to turn the boxes into a different style.

Evaluation of My Audience

There are many social groups in modern pop culture today that have been outcasted by the older population, due usually to the fact that they feel threatened or that they feel confused by it. For example Goths are no danger to anyone (except in extreme cases to themselves) but they are sometimes portrayed by the mass media to be demonic stalkers of the night that worship the devil and ritually sacrifice people to the Nordic gods. It has created a division between old and young that although tragic, it has been exploited to create "Mass Produced Individuality" part of which has turned into new music culture.

Because of this most music magazines focus on the music created by artists that are in the young generations eye's, like Nero or Foo Fighters, as to draw in the younger crowd. In doing so they have created a subculture of teenagers that live for music and believe in the infallible word of the critics.

In much the same way my magazine concentrates on that group of people who are not bound by specific genres but instead use the magazines to feed their thirst for the newest and best songs. It shows a different approach to music by incorporating many different genres, redefining the way music is presented and thought about. This is only possible because of the way culture and opinions have changed in the last 10 years resulting in the “ironical” age that as well as subverting all previous opinions on what is “cool”, it also attempts to accept every idea and opinion the modern world has.

The average member of my audience would be up-to-date with today’s fashion, be well informed on modern culture and would probably be 16-25. My audience could belong to any social group at all which is the main point of what my magazine is about. It doesn’t matter what genre you are into, it gives an opinion on it all.
