In response to the result of the polls i have decided to make my DPS about a top ten listing, for example "best ever live bands" or "top ten greatest songs of all time". This would probably be a major attraction to my website as humans tend to like being told what to think and would both listen and argue as they them selfs would have an opinion. The success of this kind of story can be shown by rolling stone magazines top 500 songs as this was released on the anniversary of its release, took up the cover of the magazine its self and sold 15 million copies of its album version. I have also decided to to mix the band up so the majority are looking away but the figure heads are looking at you. this makes it both a better picture and more engaging.

My Audience
My audience is anyone who enjoys rock and all its variations, with ages ranging from Kerrangs teenage following or Qs "mature music lovers" group, as this is the most probable audince that will buy magazines. For example there are so many rock magazines but hardly any for anythig else. I will try to adress my audience by making colour scheems, stories and pictures aplicable for that genre. I already have pictures of a metal band at practice and a person holding a gitar at sunset as a story about how an old rock star has brought out a new acoustic album.

What I have Learnt from the Research
I have decided to make my cover more exciting than conventional as the best covers seem to be the ones with things going on. also i want my double page spread to be completely different to the story on the cover as it gives my more choice in what i can write about. Plus I have discovered the conventions that I will have to abide by like the rule of thirds and the order of importance (the title comes first, then the main story, then the other stories, then the free gifts and finally the legal info).

What I Have Learnt
I have learnt that the cover of a magazine does not necessarily have to have the subject looking at the audience, it could be a good picture of something awe-inspiring or it could be a picture of a band playing. This means that I can focus more on getting the picture i want rather than the picture i need. i also learnt that a cover must have a specific set of colours, otherwise it might look to crowded.

My preliminary task
This was my first task, to create a cover for a school magazine. First i took a picture of someone playing the guitar against a tree, the model for my cover, and put into photoshop. Then i cut him out of the picture and put him in to an A4 sized page in another photoshop document. Once i had made some adjustments to the Photo, I selected a limited pallet of blue, white and black and made a masthead footer and a title. I then touched it all up and it was finished.

The Breif:
Preliminary Exercise;
Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/collage magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.
Main Task;
The front page, contents page and double page spread of a new music magazine.
